I’m sure many of you remember my last post about not updating my blog until I had received an invitation; and if you don’t, just scroll down the page a little bit. Well, I have officially received an invitation to serve in Burkina Faso leaving June 2010!!!! I will be doing a community health program and I am ridiculously excited!!!!

To put this whole experience into perspective, I turned down a full scholarship and stipend to get my PhD, a scholarship to law school and a job opportunity to pursue the Peace Corps. I had to make a very big decision with regards to where I would be in the next year and I didn’t feel the same about any of the other options as I do about Peace Corps. I can also say, that I have the most supportive and amazing family!! Everyone completely respected my decision and back me 100 percent. This process has shown me that nothing worth having will come easy. For everyday that I told myself I was just going to go to grad school or law school because I felt like the Peace Corps was playing my life, I could hardly remember because of how great it felt to hear that I was invited to serve. Not to mention, they were gracious enough to move my program from September to June.

All in all, this process took about seven months from nomination to invitation. It feels like it took so much longer. Good luck to everyone in their process, and I will be doing another update very soon!!
