O.K. people….just know that I have put aside doing important homework assignments just so that I can update my blog. I know you have all been dying for a follow up after I left you with the last post. My apologies for leaving everyone hanging like that, it was a busy week. Nevertheless, let’s get started.
So, I remember reading about other people’s experiences with their invitation packets and I can honestly say that you really don’t understand until you have this heavy envelope filled with more papers and instructions than you’ve ever seen in life, sitting right in front of you. The packet was so big, and filled with so much stuff that it was a bit overwhelming. All I could do for the first two days was look at it…open it, go through some folders, look at it some more and then close it again. I felt like I had just received Peace Corps homework on top of the numerous assignments that I already had due. Not to mention the aspiration statement was lurking in the back of my mind until I finally finished and submitted it yesterday.
With regards to the whole visa and passport applications, I am so lost!! There are so many forms and tid bits that I really don’t know where or how to begin. I did take my passport and visa pictures today, but I don’t think I will be able to send those back until Friday. Mainly because I will have a chance to call and get some type of help filling out the forms on Friday.
I did go back to Jersey this weekend for my nephew’s birthday. I felt obligated because I was never able to make it to his other three birthdays and I won’t be at another one for two, maybe three years. I took the opportunity to tell those relatives back home about my Peace Corps invite. Meanwhile, those family members who already knew took the opportunity to shower me with praise and admiration for the entire weekend. My grandmother called everyone and had me reiterating the whole “I’m moving to Africa” speech over and over. Bless her heart. Either way, everyone was so excited and started shedding tears of joy. After this weekend, I don’t know if I will be able to handle them when I’m about to actually leave!
On another note, I will keep everyone posted on how I am coming along with this gordian knot of a package. Looking forward to graduation and finishing up with these classes. Oh, and Erykah Badu’s cd dropped yesterday!! I’m a little late on buying it but I will have it by the end of the week.
Peace and Blessing
